Pray for Fair and Peaceful Elections in Nigeria

Critical Presidential Election in Nigeria This Saturday

Please join us in prayer for the next few days as Nigerians prepare to vote for their next president this Saturday, February 25. Our Christian brothers and sisters are hoping for an improvement in their lives, now filled with fear from the attacks by the militant Muslims!

Pray that the election process would be conducted in an honest and peaceful manner.

In 1 Timothy 2:1-4 we are told to pray for those in authority. We believe that the prayer of God’s people can bring about a positive outcome in this critical election.

This election is crucial for our brothers and sisters in Christ who have been experiencing extreme violence, kidnappings and killings by Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen under the leadership of the current Islamic president.

Nigeria’s constitution ensures freedom of religion and it has four distinct legal systems, English law, common law, customary law and Sharia law. Sharia law used to be used only in Northern Nigeria where Islam is the predominant religion but is spreading into other areas of the country.

Outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari’s 8-year governance has been marked by catastrophic corruption, violence, inflation, and unemployment. Nigeria although democratic is one of the most corrupt nations in the world.

In recent years, targeted violence against Christians has been sharply increasing as widespread terrorism ravages the country in the form of kidnapping-for-ransom, armed attacks by militant Islamist groups in the north and separatist insurgency in the southeast.

One of the most shocking acts of terrorism in 2022 was the mass shooting at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ondo State. During a Sunday mass, 1200 congregants were attacked by gunmen using explosives. That attack left 50 killed, including children, and many more injured. Entire families were wiped out.

At this critical moment, please pray that a Godly leader is elected that can bring peace and security to all the 225 million people in Nigeria

Prayer points:

1.  Pray for wisdom in decision making for voters to choose a God-fearing leader.

2.  Pray that those who might try illegally changing the outcome of the vote will be removed.

3.  Pray for the corruption among the police and security forces to be eliminated.

4.  Pray that candidates will take brave stands to come to the aid of our persecuted Christian believers and bring back human rights and justice to Nigeria.

Together in His Ministry!
