Andy Lay – In Memory

Andy Lay

Chair Board of Directors

Door of Hope International

Born: June 1, 1941

Passed: August 31, 2021

Resided: Sylmar, CA

Andy Lay joined Door of Hope International’s Board of Directors in 1992. From the beginning, his gentlemanly and gracious presence became an example in so many ways for all who had the privilege of serving God alongside him.

Andy was a true disciple of Christ and a man who consistently displayed genuine Christ-like character. His gentleness, kindness, wisdom and encouraging spirit were a great blessing to all who had the honor of knowing him.

In addition, since 2015 Andy, together with his wife Magda, joined our Glendale office team. Andy immediately became a great asset in the office bringing his many years of experience in resource development, his spiritual leadership and encouragement to our staff. He will be missed by many DOHI friends and partners who received personal phone calls of thanks or letters from him.

Andy Lay studied at Welch College in Nashville, TN, and the School of Intercultural Studies at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA, served as a pastor for 17 years, followed by 30-plus years in various ministries; resource development at Every Home for Christ, African Enterprise, Union Rescue Mission of Los Angeles, Fuller Theological Seminary, Icthus International as well as Door of Hope International (DOHI).

DOHI family is grieving the loss of Andy’s presence. His quiet strength will be greatly missed at DOHI board meetings and at the office where his talents, gifts and spiritual leadership was so much appreciated. However, we are confident that there is great rejoicing in heaven as one more hero of faith is taking his rest in his heavenly home.

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.  II Timothy 4:7-8
