Pastor Saeed Abedini was allowed visitors for the first time since his transfer from Evin Prison to the more deadly Rajai Shahr Prison. In Evin Prison his Iranian family had been able to visit him once every week but have been prevented visitation since his transfer. Until now they had no idea of his physical condition and whether he was still alive.
Abedini suffers internal injuries inflicted by his captors but was denied medication and blankets brought by his father. He has been denied any personal belongings. Abedini is in Ward 3 among some of Iranian worst criminals, murderers and rapists where he shares a three meter by three meter cell with other prisoners. Prisoner on prisoner violence and murder is routine at Rajai Shahr Prison.
According to a story by Jordan Sekulow for the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), this is a positive sign that international pressure continues to work to keep Abedini alive.
The ACLJ said, “We believe that prayer and strong international pressure – the outcry of hundreds of thousands of people around the world – are keeping Pastor Saeed alive.”
Last week the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a bipartisan resolution calling for Abedini’s release.
Please continue to urge President Obama to continue to bring the issue of Pastor Saeed’s freedom forward as the international negotiations continue with Iran.
